You see, come January 1st, colleges are sitting on a limited amount of awards ready to go out. Who will get them? The first qualified people who ask for them. And if you’re just getting started in January, I can guarantee that there will be a long line ahead of you—especially in a down economy.
According to the Project on Student Debt, 14 percent of undergrads took out private student loans in 2007-08. That’s almost triple the number in 2003-04, and proves there’s more competition for financial aid.
