NJ Stars – A Valuable Scholarship Program for New Jersey Residents November 12, 2009
Families everywhere are looking for ways to help with the high cost of college. If you live in New Jersey there is a an excellent scholarship program called NJ Stars. For motivated students, it may be the financial lifeline families have been dreaming about.
There are two parts to the NJ Stars program. The first deals with students in high school looking to receive their associates’ degree at a community college. If you meet all the requirements, NJ stars will pay your full tuition and fees!
In order to be eligible, high school students must complete a rigorous series of high school courses that is established by the New Jersey Higher Education Commission and graduate in the top 15 percent of their high school class. Students must also pass a college placement test. Once you pass, you will receive a conditional letter into the NJ Stars Program. (There is a second chance for those students who do not pass on their first try.)
Next, you must enroll in a New Jersey community college associates program. NJ Stars will pay for five full time semesters (12-18 credits) including summer sessions. If a student takes a program that requires six semesters, you may be eligible to apply for part two of this program NJ Stars II.
As far as grade point average requirements, students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average after their freshman year of college to continue in the program their sophomore year. Students must then maintain a 3.25 grade point average after their sophomore year to apply for the second part of this program, NJ Stars II.
