As you begin to decide which colleges you want to apply to and possibly take a tour of, the possibilities can be overwhelming. A good option for New Jersey students wanting to find out more information about colleges without committing to a college tour trip should consider visiting a national college fair.

In April 2010 the National Association for College Admission Counseling will be holding a fair in Edison, New Jersey. The reason this fair is so exciting is that it is the largest of its kind, with over 850,000 students attending each year. Hundreds of colleges send admissions representatives who are prepared to discuss everything from admission requirements and financial aid to course selections to college life in general. They are able to give you detailed information that you may not be able to find on a website or in a brochure. It also allows your family to ask questions and helps you to begin narrowing your choices.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling fairs are free and open to the public.

The NACAC also hosts a Performing Arts and Visual Arts College Fair each fall. These fairs are for students who want to pursue studies in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, graphic design, and other related arts programs. Along with finding out about the colleges admissions requirements and financial aid, students can learn about special portfolio days and audition dates and times. Although the Performing Arts and Visual Arts College Fair is completed for this fall, a new schedule for the fall of 2010 will be available shortly.

Remember that a college fair is only the first step in your process. After you have decided upon a few great college choices, continue to work hard to graduate with a high grade point average, take advantage of courses to improve your SAT scores and meet with a college financial aid consultant to help ensure that you make the right decisions for you and your family.

The NACAC will be visiting the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, NJ on Wednesday April 28th 2010 and Thursday April 29th 2010. You can visit their website at: www.nacacnet.org for more information.
