12 Quick Tips to Help Pay for College (Part 2) March 4, 2010
Yesterday I shared with you six tips to help pay for college. Read on for today’s final six tips!
- Choose your applications wisely. Try to apply to colleges whose school’s admission criteria you exceed, in hopes of receiving a better financial aid package. Prep thoroughly for all tests and keep your grades up!
- If you need to borrow money, look into federal loans first before looking into private ones.
- Don’t put tuition costs on a credit card. The interest rate will have you paying up to 33% more and will leave you little wiggle room in case of a real-life emergency.
- If your finances take a turn for the worst, apply for additional financial aid. You will need to supply additional documentation to be eligible.
- Take as many AP courses as possible and prep for AP exams. Scoring high on AP exams can save large amounts of money on tuition by earning college credits.
- You can pay less for a four-year degree by spending your first two years at a community college and then transferring to a higher cost college of your dreams. Just check to make sure that the four-year college will accept your community credits.
